General frequently asked questions

Sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms to ensure your privacy and convenience. Most clients meet with me over Zoom, but I'm also able to use SimplePractice or Google Meet if one of those works better for you. When needed, we can also arrange phone sessions.

Yes, telehealth therapy can be highly effective. Based on my clinical experience providing both in-person and telehealth services over the years—as well as current research—teletherapy offers unique advantages. For individuals struggling with anxiety or OCD, meeting in your everyday environment can enhance the therapeutic process. It allows us to address concerns as they naturally arise in your daily life, and for many OCD-related themes, it opens up opportunities for real-time exposure that would be difficult or impossible to replicate in a traditional office setting.

How to Get Reimbursed for Therapy Sessions

Step 1 – Check Your Out-of-Network Benefits

Call the member-services number on your insurance card and ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental-health benefits?
  • What is my deductible and how much of it is met?
  • After my deductible, what percentage is reimbursed for CPT 90791 (initial) and 90837 (therapy)?
  • Are telehealth sessions covered?
  • Where do I send my superbills or claims?

Tip: Write down the representative's name and reference number for your records.

Step 2 – Receive a Monthly Superbill

After each session(or upon request), you'll receive a superbill—an itemized receipt with your provider's credentials, service dates, CPT/ICD-10 codes, and fees. You can upload or email this directly to your insurance company.

Step 3 – Submit Your Claim

You have two options:

  • Option A: Upload your superbill through your insurance portal.
  • Option B: Use an app such as Reimbursify, Mentaya, or Better to file and track claims for you.

Most clients receive reimbursement within 2–6 weeks.

Step 4 – Understand Your Potential Savings

If sessions are $250 and your plan reimburses 70% after your deductible, you pay only $75 per session out-of-pocket. Many clients find therapy more affordable once benefits apply.

Step 5 – Use FSA or HSA Funds

Therapy is an eligible medical expense—FSA or HSA cards can be used for payments before reimbursement arrives.

I am an out-of-network (OON) provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. However, many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement by submitting a superbill—a detailed invoice I provide after each session—to their insurance company. Reimbursement depends on your specific plan and out-of-network benefits, so I recommend contacting your insurance provider to find out what’s covered. I’ll make sure you have the documentation you need to support any reimbursement claims.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all—treatment length varies based on several factors, including the nature of your concerns, your goals, your level of engagement, and any co-occurring issues. In the beginning, we’ll typically meet weekly to build momentum and deepen the work. As progress is made, we’ll gradually space out sessions—moving to biweekly, then monthly—until we’re ready to end treatment. From the start, we’ll collaborate to set clear, achievable goals and regularly check in on your progress. The aim is to help you reach your goals as efficiently and meaningfully as possible.

My standard fee is $250 for a 45-minute individual therapy session. If at any point we determine that an additional session during the week would be beneficial, I offer 30-minute sessions at a rate of $170. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about payment, billing, or documentation for insurance reimbursement.

Our first session—often called an intake—is slightly different from ongoing therapy sessions. It lasts 60 minutes and is billed at $335. During this time, I’ll ask questions to better understand your symptoms, concerns, personal history, and what you’re hoping to achieve in therapy. This session helps us begin to build a strong therapeutic relationship and develop a tailored treatment plan that fits your unique needs and goals. You’re welcome to bring any questions or concerns you have—we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
